Hot Weather Policy

18 Jan 2019 by Matt Gleeson

Athletics NSW has a very comprehensive policy regarding conducting of events in very hot times. Tonight we will be monitoring the conditions very closely and ensuring we do not put anyone in an unsafe position. There are some important things you can take action on to help promote safety:
1) pls start hydrating now. Coming to foxglove fully hydrated will be significantly better than trying to begin hydration at the ground.
2) feel free to bring ice packs or frozen water for placing against the skin for cooling or drinking
3) bring a face washer that could be dipped in water and draped around shoulders and neck
4) bring a sprayer or battery operated fan if you have one
5) parents and age managers pls consider bringing an umbrella
6) don’t wear excessive clothes and if you need to break from uniform to be sun smart, please feel free to do so.
7) wear a hat when in the sun, and take it off when in the shade…. let the heat escape from the top of your head

We will set up a number of hydration stations at the ground tonight too. Please use the water wisely for drinking foremost as the water will be ice chilled (initially at least).

We will also have a first aid officer/helper there tonight. Warmly welcome parents with medico backgrounds for this role.

If we are all sensible and safe tonight it will be a great night for everyone.

Regards
Matt
